How to translate your WPZOOM WordPress theme using Weglot

Looking to translate your WPZOOM WordPress theme into multiple languages? Well, you’ve come to the right place!

We’ll explain exactly how quickly and simply you can add multiple languages using WordPress multilingual plugin Weglot

Then we’ll take a closer look at some extra features of the plugin to help you with your website localization process.

How to install Weglot on your WPZOOM WordPress theme

Step 1: Head to your WordPress dashboard and add the Weglot plugin. Click on ‘Plugins’ and ‘Add New’. Use the search bar and type in Weglot.

Click on the ‘Install Now’ button. After a few seconds, this will change to ‘Activate’ – click to finish the install. After that, a new Weglot tab will appear on the left-hand side – click on this tab to complete the multilingual process.

Step 2: Now you’re in the Weglot tab, you can add your new languages. To get your API key you’ll need to sign up for a Weglot account. This account will also be where you’ll manage your translations and make custom changes to your website translation project.

Add your API key, then in the next box, the original language of your website, and finally…the languages you want to add!

Remember to click ‘Save Changes’ to finish the process.

And that’s it! You’ve now got a multilingual WordPress website in a matter of minutes. If you go to your website you’ll see Weglot has automatically added a language switcher to the bottom right corner of your site. Use it to switch between the languages you’ve just added.

The style of this language switcher might not be to your liking, but that’s no problem! With Weglot, there are a number of settings that will allow you to make some easy customizations without any code.

In your Weglot tab, there are a number of options that allow you to move the language switcher position plus choose things like choosing to display a flag, no flag, language code etc.

Of course, you can also add CSS if you want your own design.

Managing your website translations with Weglot

Now you’ve got your translated WordPress website, it’s relevant to also explain how Weglot actually works. The good news is that Weglot is a full solution multilingual plugin. What that means is that it detectes all the content on your website, translates it using a first layer of machine translation, and then displays that content under language-specific subdirectories.

That’s all automated for you, there’s no tricky string by string translation. What comes next is a number of settings and features you might want to play around with to enhance your multilingual website.

The first thing is your website translations. For many users, machine translation might be all you want, in which case there isn’t anything to do – you’re good to go! But for other companies and brands, editing those translations might be something you want to do.

It’s also a good idea to learn more about which translations can be improved by manual editing and which ones can stay machine translated.

With Weglot, you can either make edits through your translations list:

This shows your translations side by side, organized by URL. You simply click into the translation, make a change and it’s automatically saved and updated on your live website. There’s a filter option allowing you to select between type and quality of translation.

The other view is through the Visual Editor. This takes you to a live preview of your website. Use the filter option at the top to choose the language pair you want to edit and then filter using the same type and quality as mentioned above. Click on the blue pencil icon and there you can make your changes.

What else can you do with Weglot?

Some other features to highlight that can improve your website translation project are:

  • Auto redirection
  • Media translation
  • URL exclusion
  • Glossary

Auto redirection

Many Weglot users prefer to switch on ‘auto redirection’ so their website visitors land on their intended language straight away.

Of course, the language switcher is always there to allow users to switch between their language of choice, but ultimately redirecting based on browser language gives an added sense of personalization.

Media translation

It’s not something you may have thought about but in fact, images can play an important role in your website translation project. Sometimes you’ll want to display a more culturally relevant image for a different market.

This is possible with Weglot by heading to your translations list. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on ‘Add media translation’.

Then add in the original image file name and the file name you want to replace it with.

You can use the same method for video files too.

URL exclusion

Sometimes it’s not always necessary to translate every part of your website for your new website visitors. Perhaps you have an article that only appeals to a certain market and it’s simply not relevant for another.

With Weglot you can exclude certain URLs from being translated through the URL exclusion available in the setting section. Just add the URL you want to exclude and for which languages and then the language switcher will no longer include that language on that page.

Glossary

Often there are a number of words on your website that you don’t ever want to translate – such as your brand name. Or words that you do always need to translate, and you want to set up one rule for them, such as a CTA button.

Use Weglot’s Glossary function to do just that!

Multilingual SEO

Not only does Weglot translate your website, but it also takes care of your multilingual SEO. With language-specific subdirectories, automatically added hreflang tags and translated metadata you can edit to include keywords for your new target markets – so you’ll be found by your new audiences.
